Some of the most prominent cleaning and hygiene sector’s figures will brief MPs and Peers on Tuesday 20 April about how to restore people’s confidence in using work and public spaces following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The key session is being run by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the UK Cleaning and Hygiene industry, and is entitled ‘Cleaning and Hygiene’s Role in Restoring the Public’s Confidence Post-Covid in Using Work and Public Spaces’.
It is the first major public meeting for the APPG since its formation earlier this year and could be an important step in helping raise the profile of the cleaning and hygiene industry. The discussion will explore the vital role of the cleaning and hygiene sector in helping the UK recover from the pandemic and into the future.
A range of industry heavy-hitters will be taking part in the panel discussion, including:
- Deborah Bland, Global Marketing Manager BSC and Retail, Diversey
- Delia Cannings, British Cleaning Council (BCC) Director and National Lead for Education & Training at the Association of Healthcare Cleaning Professionals (ahcp)
- Dave Fuller, Account Director, Bunzl Cleaning & Hygiene
- Dr John Hines, Director of Research and Development at SC Johnson Professional
- Darren Marston, Executive Chairman, Industrial Cleaning Equipment Ltd
- Jim Melvin, Deputy Chair of the BCC, Cleaning & Support Services Association (CSSA) Director and Group CEO, Exclusive Contract Services
- Jason Towse, MD People Services, Mitie
They will discuss a range of topics including:
- Restoring public confidence
- Business readiness
- Health and wellbeing
- What happens beyond the pandemic
Jim Melvin said: “I’m hugely looking forward to our first major discussion with APPG members about the vital role our sector has in restoring public confidence during and after the pandemic. It promises to be an informative, valuable and very important discussion.
“We think the key areas include what businesses need to do to reassure their workforce and visitors and whether they ready and able to do that. We believe that cleaning and hygiene needs to be prioritised and highly visible, and delivered by professional staff in a sustainable way in our work and public spaces in order to restore confidence.
“This is not just about what we do during the pandemic. We think this presents an outstanding and much-needed opportunity to change the UK’s culture for good in order that health and wellbeing are always at the top of the agenda and there is recognition of the important role of the cleaning and hygiene sector in achieving that.”
Anyone wishing to watch the Zoom conference live, email compsec@britishcleaningcouncil.org in advance. An archive of the briefing will also be made available afterwards.
The APPG has the support of a sizeable number of MPs from all the major political parties and members of The House of Lords. The group exists to promote the critical importance of the cleaning and hygiene industry to the people of the United Kingdom. The BCC acts in the role of secretariat and is organising a significant number of steering groups in seeking to carry out the industry’s clear, focused and much needed strategic aims.
