Cordant connects with Midland Metro

Following a competitive tender, Midland Metro has awarded Cordant Cleaning a three-year contract to provide a range of services across its tram network in Birmingham.

Midland Metro took over the tram franchise earlier this year, and it was previously operated by National Express, who Cordant had successfully partnered with for the past five years.

Under the terms of the multi-million pound deal, Cordant Cleaning will operate 24/7 with an initial remit for the cleaning of the current infrastructure which includes 24 trams, three car parks, 26 trams and depot. A specialist team will be responsible for walking the 21km tram route tram route that runs between Birmingham and Wolverhampton collecting approximately 20 bags of general rubbish each day, in addition to items such as mattresses and TVS.

The company will also support Midland Metro’s plans to transform from a single line to a network three times larger, with more than 80 stops serving more than 20 transport interchanges and linking Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Dudley, Brierley Hill, Digbeth, North Solihull, Birmingham Airport, the NEC and HS2.

Guy Pakenham, Managing Director at Cordant Cleaning, said: “This is a complex and challenging operation that requires a range of skills, expertise and a dedicated team. We are committed to ensuring that all passengers and staff can enjoy a clean, safe and uninterrupted journey.”
