Directorship passes on to a new generation

Charles Coward and Andy Coward have been appointed joint Managing Directors of family-owned specialist brush manufacturer, Hillbrush.

This follows the move of current MD Philip Coward, who has become Chairman of the company. Philip’s son Charles is currently Commercial Director of Hillbrush, overseeing Sales and Marketing operations while his nephew, Andy, joined Hillbrush in 2016 as IT and Finance Director.

Established in 1922 in Wiltshire, Hillbrush now manufactures more than 2000 products, from traditional brooms through to specialist cleaning tools for janitorial, food manufacturing and HORECA sectors, which are distributed to more than 90 countries.

As part of its plans for continuous product innovation, Hillbrush opened a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility on the outskirts of Mere, Wiltshire in 2017 which incorporates a visitor centre, brush museum, restaurant and shop. The company employs more than 100 people.

Philip Coward, Chairman of Hillbrush said: “After 44 years with Hillbrush and many of those as Managing Director, the time is right for me to hand over to the next generation of our family. Youth is important in any organisation and both Charlie and Andy are well qualified to drive Hillbrush forward.

“While we have our heritage in traditional brush-making we have developed some innovative new products in the last few years including specialist cleaning tools for high risk hygiene food manufacturing. Developing new markets and opportunities such as these will support our future expansion; these are exciting times for Hillbrush.”
