Marble Arch London BID (Business Improvement District) has assembled partners, including Westminster City Council and Transport for London (TfL) to undertake a thorough clean of Edgware Road as part of this year’s Great British Spring Clean.
In line with its ongoing commitment to the local community, Marble Arch London BID has brought together the council and TfL – along with several contractors, including TfL’s Ringway and the council’s recycling and waste partner Veolia – to undertake gully cleansing, pavement washing, bin replacement, pothole filling, chewing gum removal, and pavement repairs the length and breadth of Edgware Road, from Marble Arch to the Marylebone Flyover. The morning saw eight vehicles, and 25 crew members, participating in over 100 hours of cleaning.
Alongside the widespread clean of the district, the BID’s Street Team worked with the council’s city inspectors to offer helpful tips to local businesses on the best ways to dispose of commercial waste, as well as provide recycling advice, to ensure Edgware Road remains a pleasant space for those who live, work, visit or attend school in the area.
This year marks the fifth year that Marble Arch London BID has brought together teams to take part in the Great British Spring Clean. The BID previously pulled together teams of volunteers and staff from businesses across the district to take part in activities ranging from picking up litter from nearby canals to working in the wildflower meadows in Hyde Park. The campaign, run by Keep Britain Tidy, is the UK’s single biggest environmental mass participation event, and sees volunteers from across the country make more than one million miles of British outdoor spaces cleaner and greener.
