SafeGroup has appointed Mark McGowan as its new Head of Sales, as the business looks to build on rapid growth achieved in 2020.
Mark had previously been head of strategy and implementation at recycling and waste specialist Viridor, and has more than 15 years’ experience in sales in the waste and recycling industry. He has been given responsibility to develop and manage SafeGroup's sales team across all service streams – cleaning, waste and pest solutions – reporting to Managing Director Mike Drake.
Mike commented: “Mark brings proven experience in developing and implementing successful national sales strategies and building sales teams that deliver them. We're delighted to welcome him to SafeGroup.
“The business has grown by over 43% in 2020. We're looking to maintain that momentum in 2021. We're building a strong and talented team that can drive that, and Mark's appointment is a reflection of our ambition.”
Mark added: “SafeGroup is a remarkably agile and entrepreneurial business, with an impressive service portfolio, and exciting opportunities for growth, especially in the cleaning and waste sectors. It also has a strong reputation for delivery among key clients.
“My objective is to work with colleagues to scale up our sales and business development capability while developing further an already strong brand. This is a team effort, and there is talent and ambition throughout the business so I am looking forward to what 2021 and the years ahead will bring.”
SafeGroup's growth in 2020 has been driven by demand for specialist cleaning and hygiene support during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company quickly recognised the need for advanced COVID-19 disinfection and was one of the first businesses to invest in the latest decontamination technologies.
SafeGroup now delivers COVID-19 electrostatic spray disinfection and ozone decontamination for a wide range of clients, including Transport for London, the NHS, manufacturers, schools and leading retailers. In January, the company acquired Dorchester’s Spotless Cleaning Solutions.
Mark continued: “The pandemic has dramatically changed the cleaning and hygiene landscape, I think for good. High standards of cleaning and wellbeing in the workplace are now inextricably linked. Even when the pandemic is beaten, as we hope it will with the vaccine programme, there will be a need for new types of specialist hygiene services, and we believe SafeGroup is well placed to deliver them.”
