Swansea Uni FM contract for Mitie

Mitie kicks off new facilities management contract with Swansea University

Mitie has commenced a new five-year contract to deliver FM services for Swansea University, with an option to extend for up to four more years, and is worth £2.4m a year.

Mitie will deliver cleaning, waste management, and grounds maintenance across all of the University’s buildings including offices, lecture theatres and student halls. With face-to-face teaching expected to return for the majority of students during the next academic year, these services will help ensure that buildings are clean and safe for the University’s employees and students.

Sustainability will be a priority, with Mitie committing to only using cleaning products with reduced or biodegradable packaging to help minimise the amount of single use plastic brought onto the site. Mitie will also use its waste management expertise to advise the University on new initiatives to reduce the amount of waste produced across its sites.

During the first year of the contract, Mitie will switch its fleet of vehicles on site to zero emission electric models, helping the university achieve its goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2035.

Giving back to the local community will also be a key part of the contract, with Mitie committing to at least one internship every year to allow Swansea University students to combine their studies with on-the-job work experience. Mitie colleagues on this contract will also be given time to participate in the University’s volunteering activities, such as beach cleaning, to support local community projects.

Alice Woodwark, Managing Director, Communities at Mitie, said: “We are very excited to have been chosen by Swansea University to deliver facilities management services, helping to ensure its buildings are ready to support students and staff as they return to the campus this September.

“We look forward to using our sustainability expertise and experience delivering services for higher education facilities to support the University with its goal of cutting waste and reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2035.”

Ben Lucas, Associate Director of Commercial Services at Swansea University, added: “We’re thrilled to have appointed Mitie to deliver cleaning, waste management and grounds management services here at Swansea University. The Mitie team bring broad expertise and experience in providing sustainable facilities management services and we look forward to working in partnership to ensure we continue to provide our community with the best possible on campus experience.”
