Kimberly-Clark Professional has launched a new website, inviting you to discover what it calls ‘The Disgusting Truth’ about jet air dryers.
With nearly 95% of adults not washing long enough to thoroughly clean the bacteria and viruses from their hands, the way you dry your hands becomes even more important.
According to independent scientific studies cited by Kimberly-Clark Professional, jet air dryers can increase the number of bacteria on fingers by 42% compared to drying hands with paper towels, and can blow water droplets containing bacteria and viruses up to two metres into the surrounding environment for up to 15 minutes. More worryingly, jet air dryers dispersed 1300 times more viruses than drying with paper towels, and 70% of the viruses are spread at the height of a child’s face.
Drying with paper towels can reduce bacteria on fingers by up to 77%. Single use paper towels are critical to hand hygiene and are recommended as the hand drying method by the World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care.
