Tork supports World Hand Hygiene Day 2025 with virtual reality training

Tork manufacturer Essity is supporting World Hand Hygiene Day 2025 by offering free interactive training to healthcare workers.

Tork Virtual Reality Clean Hands Training and Education allows staff to practise the World Health Organisation’s five moments for hand hygiene on their own hands in real-life scenarios.

Liam Mynes, Essity Sales Manager, said: “Our hand hygiene training package is a perfect fit with this year’s World Hand Hygiene Day, which takes the theme ‘It’s Always Hand Hygiene’. We proudly support World Hand Hygiene Day by offering solutions that empower healthcare professionals to deliver quality care and enhance patient safety.”

Proper hand hygiene is a leading measure for infection prevention in healthcare facilities, says Liam, but he adds that despite recognising its importance, nearly 80% of healthcare professionals feel they need to improve their hand hygiene practices.

Available in multiple languages, Tork Virtual Reality Clean Hands Training and Education invites users into a digital world where they are confronted with a series of scenarios where hand hygiene needs to be carried out. Developed in collaboration with behavioural scientists and hand hygiene experts, the course aims to provide hand hygiene guidance in an engaging way.

The training can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play Store and transmitted via a smartphone through any compatible virtual reality headset.

World Hand Hygiene Day takes place on 5 May and this will be the 10th consecutive year in which Essity has supported the initiative. Liam commented: “Recognising the significance of hand hygiene not only improves safety but also enhances patient confidence. Nearly 80% of patients report feeling more assured about a facility’s cleanliness and care quality when they observe hand hygiene signage.”

As part of the Tork mission to deliver hygiene for all, Tork also provides a guide to optimum hand sanitiser dispenser placement in a typical hospital. Tork Alcohol Hand Sanitisers are available in dispensers for general use as well as in smaller formats that can be clipped to a patient’s bed or issued to a medical worker.
