WCEC hosts annual Military Awards 2019

The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners host their annual Military Awards for 2019

The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners (WCEC) recently hosted the 2019 edition of its annual Military Awards on 17 September.

The awards, held at Ironmongers Hall with over 150 guests in attendance, give special recognition to the work of Environmental Health Technicians (EHTs) from the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC), the RAF Environmental Health Cadre, and the WCEC's affiliated Cadet Units, for their work at home and abroad.

This year, the Master of the WCEC, Barrie Torbett, addressed the attendees and his speech focused on the long-standing relationship with RAMC and environmental health sector. He highlighted their outstanding achievements whether in service in the UK or overseas. He also commended the Cadet Corp for their outstanding achievements in training and discipline.

The trophies, medals and purses awarded on the day included:

Junior NCO Award
Winner – Acting Sergeant James Hodges
Citation by – Lieutenant Colonel Gareth Moore, Defence Specialist Advisor, Environmental Health

Senior NCO Award
Winner – Sergeant Steven Redding, (Currently Serving in New Zealand)
Award accepted by Major Paul Kinvig, Officer in Command, Environmental Health Training and Education.
Citation by – Lieutenant Colonel Gareth Moore

Reserves EHT Award
Winner – Captain Steven Gorniak
Citation by – Lieutenant Colonel Gareth Moore

Postgraduate Medical Officer
General Practice Prize Winner – Captain Adrian Hucks

RAF Environmental Health Technician Prize
Winner – Sergeant Dean Crook
Citation by – Squadron Leader Gary Moyes

Best Sea Cadet Prize
Winner – Marine Cadet Corporal Ryan Aldred

Cadet Aldred was also presented with a cheque for £2,500, representing funds raised by WCEC members to help pay for his overseas exchange to Borneo for jungle training.

Best Army Cadet Prize
Winner – Cadet Staff Sergeant Chantae Bambury
Citation by – 75 (RAMC) Detachment SELACF Commanding Officer Keisha Bambury.

Best Air Cadet Prize
Winner – Cadet Flight Sergeant Diliana Porteros
Citation by – Flight Lieutenant Leroy Smith, Commanding Officer, 50F (Camberwell and Lambeth) Squadron.
