Falkirk FC has made the leap to on-premise laundry (OPL), with new Miele washing machines and tumble dryers, leading to significant saves and greater flexibility to follow match and training schedules.
Using contractors, Falkirk FC converted a storage room into an area suitable for a laundry facility. Managers then consulted local commercial laundry experts Thain Commercial to advise on machines that could wash and dry over 40 garments worn by players every match and training day.
As trips to the launderette are no longer required, the kitman at Falkirk FC can schedule laundry to correspond with training, gym sessions and match days. The club’s new OPL has made significant financial savings by putting an end to high laundrette bills every week plus removing unnecessary time and costs previously allocated to transporting laundry.
Kitman Willie O’Neil said: “Introducing OPL meant turning a room from a storage facility into something that could accommodate washing machines and tumble dryers, so it was a big upheaval. But Thain Commercial made our transition to OPL seamless, and the team are on hand if any issues occur.
“While fans only see our players on match days, our players spend the week training to stay on top of their game. As a result, laundry is a daily task. Now that we have an OPL facility, I can wash garments there and then, making the process much less burdensome than when we were outsourcing the service.”
Two Miele PWT6089 washing machines and two Miele PTT7189 tumble dryers were selected and installed for the club’s new laundry room in a matter of days.
Now in greater control of the laundry process, the club also has a choice over detergent brands, allowing the kitman to ensure that garments are washed to an expected standard and within an ideal timescale.
