Green Cleaning Hailed As 2022’s Biggest Trend

o

The cleaning industry has been adopting environmentally-friendly practices over the last few years, but this is about to step up a gear, with ‘green cleaning’ set to become the biggest trend in the sector this year.

Cleaning product manufacturer and distributor Robert Scott spoke to This Week In FM about what could change for the industry in 2022.

He said reducing plastic waste, utilising re-usable products and focusing on sustainable practices would be key to longevity for many cleaning businesses.

Three-quarters of companies believe reducing plastic waste will be most important in 2022, while 60 per cent think this will be using products made from recycled materials, and 55 per cent assert implementing more re-usable products into cleaning techniques will be particularly essential this year.

Some of the most popular eco-friendly cleaning products, according to Ideal Home, include OceanSaver Cleaning EcoDrops Collection, Ecover Toilet Bowl Cleaner, Ecoegg Re-usable Bamboo Towels, and Puressentiel Purifying Air Spray.

Cleaning equipment will also be updated with greener alternatives, including Beeswax food wraps to replace cling film and Marley’s Monsters UNPaper Towels instead of kitchen roll.

According to findings from National Geographic, as much as 91 per cent of plastic waste is not recycled, despite it taking 400 years to decompose.

It predicts that there will be 12 billion metric tons of plastic in landfills by 2050, representing 35,000 times the weight of the Empire State Building. Therefore, making changes to the cleaning industry, which uses a considerable amount of plastic every year, will have a big impact on reducing this unnecessary waste.
