Members of Brent Council’s Cabinet have voted in favour of council estate cleaning to be done directly by Brent Council.
This follows a report which recommended that a good quality cleaning service, more responsive to residents’ needs, could be delivered directly by Brent Council. This would mean that tenants and leaseholders would have more control over the services they pay for through consultation.
Wettons Cleaning Services Limited has cleaned the borough’s housing estates since 2013. However according to a service review the quality of service has been poor, leading to low resident satisfaction.
Councillor Eleanor Southwood, Cabinet Member for Housing and Welfare Reform, said: "With the cleaning service back in house, it will give tenants and leaseholders much greater control over the service they pay for as we are committed to developing a resident led system which works well for all of us."
Estate cleaning became a priority when Brent Housing Management services was brought in house in October 2016, and steps were already taken resulting in satisfaction rising from 58% to 68% in a year.
