UVC Light Technology To Help Fight Covid Spread

UVC Light Technology To Help Fight Covid Spread

A new product which is designed to reduce the spread of airborne infectious diseases such as Covid-19 is to be trialled in a busy catering establishment. Moore MedTech, a Yorkshire based company who only began operating in spring 2020, are set to rollout their innovative new design.

The company have three product ranges, all engineered to fight pathogens. The first is a range of hand sanitisers and wipes, which have all been tested on live Covid-19 samples, unlike many rival products on the market. They are proven to leave a barrier which protects surfaces for up to 48 hours.

The second range comprises of antigen testing kits which can be used on-site or at home. The third range makes use of Far-UVC Technology, which is already widely used within the medical profession as a disinfectant. It’s a type of UVC light which is at a safe wavelength for human exposure, and destroys up to 99.98% of pathogens.

Moore MedTech’s CTO, Jamie Moore, who is leading the project, said: “Our focus is on utilising the latest technologies, techniques and applications to combat pathogens in order to tackle the pandemic and help organisations create safer, cleaner working environments in order to bring people back to shared spaces.”

He added: “We were aware that Far-UVC light was likely to be a valuable tool in our armoury and are excited that, working with our partners Free Running Buildings, this grant enables us to trial the technology in the truly testing environment of a busy hospitality hub with hundreds of customers using the coffee shop every day.”

The company have been awarded a grant of £271,000 by Innovate UK to trial and develop its UVC products. They are currently undergoing a six month trial at a coffee shop in White Rose Park in Leeds, in partnership with indoor environment experts Free Running Buildings.
